Are you curious about interactive and impactful environmental education?

If so, please join us for this lecture by Dario Fazzi — Professor of Transatlantic Environmental History at Leiden University.

In his talk, Fazzi will explain how he uses techniques such as role playing and VR technology to teach ecological awareness to a global group of students. Following the lecture, attendees joining us live in Leiden will be invited to put on VR headsets and experience some of the content created by students.

The lecture is open to anyone and is organised by the Una Europa team in Leiden, in collaboration with Leiden University's Green Office.

How to register

Join us live on the day by registering for this lecture, or for the entire LUGO Sustainability Symposium. Can’t join us in-person? We'll also have a livestream!

More about the talk

Since 2022, Fazzi has been running virtual exchange programs, focused on ecological threats in delta regions worldwide.

The exchanges connect students from the Netherlands with students in countries such as the United States, France, Morocco, and Brazil. Together they complete assignments such as environmental role playing, co-operative online map-making, and the exploration of delta environments through virtual reality.

During his talk, Fazzi will share more about the content of the course, how this fits the goals of environmental education, and how he integrates VR technology in his teaching.

In his words: “We wanted our students to challenge their own ideas and preconceptions, and this proved to be a great tool for that. If you also teach topics that require your students to put themselves in someone else's shoes to better understand their position in the world, then this is by far one of the most fun and effective programmes out there.'”
