Meijers prizes and thesis prizes awarded at New Year’s event
On Tuesday 12 January 2021, the annual Meijers prizes and thesis prizes were awarded at the online New Year’s event broadcast from the Old Observatory.
The Meijers prizes are awarded each year to the best published article from each faculty research programme. Director of Research Stefaan Van den Bogaert announced the following winners during the nieuwjaarsuitzending:

The winners receive a certificate and a sum of money to spend on their research. Two of the eight winners were also awarded the Van Wersch Springplank prize. This year, there two prizes of €5000 for scholarly publications by active and talented researchers in the area of medical/pharmaceutical and legal research. The winners are Gitta Veldt and Reijer Passchier.
Thesis prizes
Thesis prizes were also awarded by Professor of Legal History Egbert Koops, who entertained viewers by embarking on a quest to find the best theses of the past year out in his back garden. He discovered the following winners, who won a prize of €1000, €800, and €600, respectively.
