Statement by the Faculty Board regarding the Mathematical Institute (MI)
An article about our Mathematical Institute (MI) appeared on 23 June in the University newspaper Mare.
The Faculty Board has been aware of the tensions within the MI for some time, and is making every effort, together with the management team of the MI, to arrive at solutions aimed at improving the social security and culture within the Institute. We will also be holding intensive discussions on these issues in the coming period with staff and students of the Institute.
We consider it regrettable that colleagues were named specifically in the Mare publication and that accusations were made against them, causing them unreasonable and unjustifiable harm. We strongly dissociate ourselves from the statement quoted of a discriminatory nature. This is by no means representative of the atmosphere at the University. The University and Faculty are wholly committed to providing an inclusive and diverse working environment where racism and discrimination are unacceptable.
