AI Policy Leaders Award for Gianclaudio Malgieri

Gianclaudio Malgieri, Associate Professor of Law at eLaw, will receive the "AI Policy Leaders Academia Award" from CAIDP Europe (Center for AI and Digital Policy Europe) together with Professor Alessandro Mantelero, from Polytechnic University of Tourin. The reason for the award is "for their collective call on EU policy-makers to include a fundamental rights impact assessment in the EU AI Act".

The other sectors of the awards include Business (the awardee is the AI Act journalist Luca Bertuzzi), Civil Society (the awardee is EDRi, European Digital Rights) and Government (the awardee is the Italian Data Protection Supervisor, Autorità Garante per la protezione dei dati personali). After receiving the good news, Gianclaudio Malgieri commented: "Thanks to CAIDP Europe for such an unexpected and significant honour. I believe that scholars should be more and more involved in the legislative decision-making process and have academic freedom to pursue their mission (in this case, for better protecting fundamental rights), not only on paper(s) or in class. Thanks also to eLaw Center for Law and Digital Technologies (and to the Brussels Privacy Hub) for giving me such freedom".

The Awards Ceremony will be held in the Opening Night of the prestigious CPDP Conference, in Brussels on May 21 at 18:00h. See for more information the website of CPDP
