Walkout on 13 May

A national walkout will be staged on Monday 13 May. The aim is to express support for the pro-Palestine protests and to speak out against police violence. Leiden Scholars for Palestine has called on students and staff from Leiden University to meet at 11.00 at the Lipsius building in Leiden and the Wijnhaven building in The Hague.

Our students and staff are, of course, free to join in this national initiative. As long as the demonstration is peaceful and there is no discrimination or hate speech, such action is permitted on the Leiden University campus.

However, we do want to be able to guarantee the safety of all our students and staff. This means that face coverings, for example, are not permitted. The same applies to erecting barricades or occupying buildings or university grounds. Please see the house rules for demonstrations at Leiden University.

The faculties will be consulted to decide how to handle any cancelled classes and whether these will be rescheduled. More details will follow later.

We would like to ask those who wish to participate in this walk-out to ensure it proceeds in a calm and orderly manner.
