Salary increase from 1 May 2018: payment (in arrears) in September

From 1 May 2018, you will receive a general salary increase of 2%. Also, you will receive a one-off lump sum payment of 0,6% of your gross annual salary. This is agreed upon in the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities, valid from 1 July 2017 up to and including 31 December 2019. 

Payment (in arrears) in September

The pay increase on 1 May 2018 will be paid retrospectively to all employees in September 2018. Also if your employment commenced later than 1 May 2018, or if your employment ends after 1 May.

The one-off lump sum payment of 0,6% of your gross annual salary is calculated as follows:

  • the salary (excluding the 2% increase) (The annual salary is 12 times the relevant monthly salary, plus 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% year-end bonus. Allowances are left out)
  • the size of the employment per 1 May 2018

Unpaid wage tax is deducted from the one-off payment (according to the special rate).

Parental leave and unpaid leave

In the case of parental leave, the one-off payment is calculated on the basis of the size of the employment. If someone had unpaid leave on 1 May 2018, the person will not receive a one-off payment. 


Interns, on-call workers, declarants and other hired employees are excluded from the one-off payment.
