31 October 2018

How should you dispose of printed personal data?

Sensitive printed matter of this kind can be thrown away in the secure paper containers in the Pieter de la Court Building, the Einthoven Building (CWTS), and Rijnveste (LUBEC).

What are personal data?

The General Data Protection Regulation states:

“Examples of personal data.
Personal data takes many forms. Obvious examples of personal data are an individual’s name and address. But telephone numbers and postal codes with house numbers are also personal data. Sensitive data relating to an individual’s ethnicity, religion, or health is known as special personal data. The legislation provides extra protection for this sort of data.”

This sort of privacy-sensitive information can be used by third parties to damage the image of Leiden University or of employees or students.
