Trial: Archives of Sexuality & Gender: LGBTQ History and Culture Since 1940

25 October 2018

LGBTQ History and Culture Since 1940 (Gale Publishing) constitutes the largest digital archive on LGBTQ history and culture, covering social, political, health and legal issues impacting LGBTQ communities around the world, including the gay rights movement and the HIV/aids crisis. With the bulk of material dating from 1950 to 1990, the collection includes some of the earliest periodicals and newsletters that have shaped the perceptions of relevant issues for the LGBTQ community.

The database brings together a range of primary sources including personal correspondence and interviews with numerous LGBTQ individuals, organizational papers, government documents, manuscripts, pamphlets and other types of primary sources. Collections are sourced from the Lesbian Herstory Archives, the largest lesbian-focused archives in the world; the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Historical Society, the New York Public Library, the London School of Economics, and the National Institutes of Health.

Staff en students of Leiden University have access to this collection until 30 November 2018. Access the database outside the campus network by using your ULCN login data.
