FGGA switches to Windows 10
This year, the University will upgrade all Windows computers (desktops and laptops) to the Windows 10 operating system, since Microsoft will no longer support Windows 7 starting 2020. This project is managed by a team from ISSC and work on the location The Hague is scheduled to start in June 2019.
Some colleagues may remember the transfer to Windows 7 but the change and impact of this upgrade will be considerably smaller. The project team has already upgraded the computers in several other faculties so they have hands on experience. The installation of Windows 10 will be combined with the (obligatory) upgrade to Office 2016 (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.). Employees have been able to choose to upgrade for some time, but now, everybody will have to face the music.
There aren’t that many changes compared to the older version, but Office 2016 does offer a few additional options/functions which we will go into shortly.
For the actual upgrade members of the project team will make individual appointments per corridor with all computer users. On the day of the appointment, you will not be able to use the computer at your workspace during the afternoon. You will be able to use a computer on a different location or work from home. The following morning the team will stop by to make sure everything is working properly and to answer any remaining questions. All communication with regards to the upgrade will be handled by the ISSC team and everybody will be notified by that team well before hand.
