Arcadian Library Online: relations between Europe and the Middle East

16 April 2020

Leiden University Libraries now provides permanent access to Arcadian Library Online. This database contains digitisations of parts of the famous but mysterious Arcadian Library, offering hundreds of archival records and old printed books concerning Europe and the Middle East. Arcadian Library Online contains two collections, including “Europe and the Ottoman World”, and “History of Science and Medicine”.

The Arcadian Library is a private library specializing in cultural and diplomatic relations between Europe and the Arab and Islamic world. This library can only be visited by invitation, and its whereabouts are secret. Thanks to this digitization project, the public will have access to this collection.

You can find Arcadian Library Online using the Find Databases tab in the catalogue or by directly searching for the title of the source.

Students and staff at Leiden University also have access outside the campus network by using their ULCN login data.
