Additional birth leave for partners as of 1 July 2020 (Wet WIEG, Act on the Introduction of Extra Birth Leave)
Currently, regular birth leave for staff members who are partners of mothers represents the equivalent of one week (that is, the number of hours the staff member works in a week).
As of 1 July 2020, this is supplemented with additional birth leave.
Conditions
- If your child is born on or after 1 July 2020, you are entitled to a maximum of five weeks of additional birth leave (that is, five times the hours you work in a week). You can spread these leave hours over a longer period of time.
- You do have to take this additional birth leave within six months of your child’s birth.
- Before taking additional birth leave, you must first take the regular birth leave of one week.
UWV allowance for additional birth leave
The additional birth leave is unpaid leave. Your employer will apply for a UWV allowance on your behalf to cover the leave period. This allowance amounts to a maximum of 70% of your daily wage (with a maximum of 70% of the maximum daily wage).
