Van Steenis update: use of the offices and labs Archaeology
Use of the offices
Working from home will continue to be the norm. Employees who need to be in the building to get a book, make prints, etc, for a short period of time are always allowed in the building. You don't have to ask permission.
If your personal situation is not allowing you to work from home, you can work at the Van Steenis, a couple of days a week. For this you need permission. We have to register you in the flexplanner. Please contact the secretary of your department, she will reroute the request to the person in charge. Students only need to ask for permission if they visit the building for a reason other than classes.
The building is prepared for working according to the Covid-19 regulations. The norm is 1.5m social distancing. Door stickers indicate the number of persons that are allowed in an office. Please respect these numbers. This - together with extra hygiene measures - will ensure that it is safe to work at the Van Steenis. Extra attention is now given to hygiene in the labs and personal protection.
Staff members with weekend and evening authorisation on their LU card may access the building again outside office hours. Please ask permission for this as well.
And as always, if you have mild complaints related to corona (mild cold symptoms such as a cough, running nose, sore throat, sneezing), or have recently been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, stay at home and get tested. Stay in quarantine at home until the results of the test are available. See for more extensive information the Leiden University Campus Protocol.
Use of the labs
The laboratories in the Van Steenis are open for staff members and for students if this is necessary for teaching and research etc. The use of the labs spaces for students and staff members are coordinated by the lab staff. They are in close contact with the Department secretaries and together figure out a fair distribution of space between students, PhD’s, Postdocs- and other staff members.
For lab use by students: students need permission (by mail) from their thesis supervisor to work in the Van Steenis. Every Wednesday before 17.00 hours, requests (for the upcoming week) from students should be sent to the lab coordinators: Eric Mulder (Material Culture lab and Schervenzaal), Mike Field (Botanical Lab) Sarah Schrader (Osteo lab), Laura Llorente (Zooarchaeology lab), Karsten Lambers (Computer lab).
For lab use by Staff members: Staff members can sent the requests for using the laboratory to the lab leader concerned, who will coordinate with the DV and the departmental secretary.
