More information: NWO funds for fixed-term researchers adversely affected by coronavirus
As previously announced the minister for education Ingrid van Engelshoven has asked the Dutch Research Council (NWO) to free up funds from the Dutch Research Agenda budget. These funds are intended for researchers who are in the last phase of a fixed-term contract and whose research has been delayed to such an extent by coronavirus that they will be unable to complete it within their term of contract.
Leiden University and the LUMC will use these funds to extend by a maximum of three months the contracts of the most adversely affected postdocs and PhD candidates with an appointment at the university. The funds will not be available for external or contract PhD candidates.
The funds that Leiden University will receive will be used to extend the contracts of around 85 researchers. The university has specified which criteria will apply, and the faculties have started a selection and assessment process. The researchers who will receive the funds be informed by 19 April at the latest.
