Diversion for cyclists due to work on ‘Hartlijn’

23 April 2021

The municipality of Leiden and Leiden University are redeveloping the public space and infrastructure at the Leiden Bio Science Park (LBSP). The aim is to improve the LBSP, the largest Life Sciences & Health innovation district in the Netherlands.

Hartlijn
An important aspect of this project is to make the area more accessible to cyclists and pedestrians. Pivotal to this will be ‘Hartlijn’, a cycle and pedestrian path that connects all the central parts of the LBSP. Traffic on Hartlijn will have priority over other traffic, and the use of colour and a strip of medicinal plants will make Hartlijn is clearly identifiable. Biodiversity and climate adaptation are another focus of the project.

Diversion for cyclists
Work will begin on 28 April, with the builders removing the cycle path on Sylviusweg and Trambaan (Zernikedreef section). You will therefore not be able to cycle on Zernikedreef (Trambaan) and Sylviusweg from 28 April, but will need to follow the diversion indicated on the yellow signs. You will be able to access the businesses, the University of Applied Sciences and the faculties from the other direction. Cars and lorries will still be able to access the area, and pedestrians will be able to pass the construction work.
