LUF grants' internal deadlines coming up

30 April 2021

Leiden University researchers can apply to the Leiden University Fund (LUF) for various grants, such as funding for academic projects or study trips overseas. At this time, researchers can apply for two grants:

LUF Impulse Grant 2021

The Faculty of Humanities may submit a maximum of two projects for the LUF Impulse Grant. An internal committee will therefore make a selection, if more applications are submitted.

Only the top 2 of the ranked projects will be allowed to submit an elaborated full proposal to the LUF.

The deadline voor the pre-proposal is May 20, 13.00h. Please send your pre-proposal to m.c.belderbos@hum.leidenuniv.nl.

The pre-proposal has a maximum length of 500 words and includes:

  • Project name
  • General overview of the project, including relevance to society
  • Problem definition, goal and expected results
  • Research methodology
  • Planning/timeline, including start date (not before 1 November 2021, duration not more than three years).
  • Both interfaculty research and education projects can be submitted;
  • Academics from at least 2 faculties are involved and applicants must be employed by Leiden University.
  • An applicant may not be involved in more than one project and may not apply for the Praesidium Libertatis Grant 2021 at the same time.

Each application will have one lead applicant. Based on that starting point each Faculty may submit no more than two applications. In practice this means that a Faculty may be involved in more than two applications.

  • The innovative character of the project;
  • the interfaculty approach has a clear added value;
  • the research methodology is well substantiated;
  • the CVs of the main applicants show a relevant track-record

  • Applications supported by the Faculty Board can be submitted to LUF (cwb@luf.leidenuniv.nl) between June 1 and July 5 (13.00 hrs). Contact: Henk Snijders.
  • The University Board will discuss the applications September 20.
  • The top 3 will be invited to give a presentation, Tuesday October 5.
  • In principle only one subsidy awarded (max € 150.000).
  • Announcement of the awarded proposal: week of 11 October 2021.
