Introduction Horizon Europe
Introducing: Horizon Europe!
Every seven years, the European Commission launches a new funding programme for research and innovation. On 1 January 2021 Horizon Europe was launched, the successor of Horizon 2020 that ended on 31 December 2020.
Why a new programme?
Because the European Commission's budget has a seven-year cycle. Anyone who has been following the news in 2020 will have seen that it is a challenge to get the member states of the European Union to agree on this budget, of which Research & Innovation is only a very small part.
Agreement on the budget for 2021-2027 was no exception, and was finally reached in December 2020. Because this decision came so late, the first calls were postponed. These calls are expected to be opened in June 2021.

How to prepare?
Information on the current versions of the draft work programmes can be found here. They are confidential and subject to change. All call topics you find in these drafts may not be final.
