Requesting facilities for working from home via the Service Portal
After eighteen months working predominantly at home, we are moving towards a hybrid form of working that includes location-independent working. You will shortly be able to use a tool to request furniture and items that you need to work at home or at an alternative location to your workplace at the University.
Working from home is not a legal right, and not all positions are suitable for working from home. If you want to (continue to) work from home, you should discuss this with your supervisor. Make clear agreements with him or her about the facilities, the division between working at home and in the office and how teamwork will be organised. The principle is that you will be in the office for at least 40% of your working hours.
There are a number of conditions for being considered for facilities for working from home:
- You have an employment contract for at least 19 hours (0.5 FTE) paid employment.
- You have a position that allows you to work from home and you are able to do this on a structural basis at least one day per week.
If you have an employment contract for fewer than 19 hours, you can make an agreement with your supervisor regarding working from home, but you do not have access to the facilities for working from home.
From 5 October, staff from the faculty of Humanities and from Leiden University Graduate School of Teaching can request furniture via the Service Portal. Later you will also be able to request ICT equipment such as a laptop via the Service Portal. For the time being, you can request these facilities in the usual way:
- Discuss with your supervisor what furniture you need
- Log in to the Service Portal and click on the Facilities for working from home tile
- Your supervisor will assess your request
- Once approval has a been given, the order will be placed
The 'Facilities for Working from Home' tile will be available from 5 October for staff from faculty of Humanities and from Leiden University Graduate School of Teaching only. Other faculties and units will have access to this system in due course. At a later date you will also be able to request ICT equipment, such as a laptop, via this tool. Your faculty or unit will let you know when this is possible.
