International Coming Out Day: a statement from the Faculty of Archaeology

11 October 2021

Monday 11th October has been designated ”International Coming Out Day”. The Faculty of Archaeology is an enthusiastic supporter of the LGBTIQ+ community, and the rainbow flag will be flying proudly at Van Steenis.

The former chair of our Diversity Team, Corijanne Slappendel, recently left the Faculty to join the Diversity Team at the central University organisation. As a farewell message she stated: 'At our faculty, as part of a University with the motto “Bastion of Freedom”, everyone should feel supported to come out on every day of the year, whether it is about romantic or sexual orientation or gender-identity. One way to respect for instance someone’s gender identity is to make it a habit for everyone to indicate their preferred pronouns. The university recently published a flyer with more information on the use of pronouns.'
