Maximum number of Open Access articles in Springer journals to be reached soon
The Open Access agreement concluded with Springer publishers on behalf of the universities in the Netherlands is based on a maximum of 2,080 articles per year. The possibility to publish Open Access articles in Springer journals was widely used this year. As a result, the agreed maximum number of articles will be reached any moment soon.
When the cap is reached, articles that are accepted during the remainder of 2021 will no longer be eligible for Open Access without costs to Leiden researchers.
We advise authors, whose articles are accepted by Springer, to get in touch with the library at firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can discuss which alternatives are available to make their articles Open Access.
The current agreement with Springer ends on 31st December 2021. Negotiations about renewal are ongoing, so please pay attention to our website and/or Twitter account for our updates on this deal.
Please contact us at email@example.com if you have any questions.
What choices do authors have?
In the scheme below, we explain what information you will be offered and what choices you can make.
After the cap will have been reached in 2021, authors can use Springer's author portal to indicate their choice:
- to publish Open Access at their own cost;
- not to publish Open Access.
