Work in progress in and around Snellius to expand capacity of ISSC data centre

14 October 2021

The capacity of the ISSC data centre is being expanded. This will involve a renovation in phases, with internal and external (re)construction activities and internal relocations. The entire process, including the groundwork, will take about 2 ½ years. This will provide faster and better ICT facilities and sustainable capacity for data storage.

What is the current situation?

The preparations for the renovation started at the end of August. Within the Snellius, the former B-college halls are currently being dismantled and will soon be closed. These rooms will be used for the data centre.

This week (week 41) a number of activities will start on the south side of the Snellius (the open area at the Niels Bohrweg). This will involve groundwork and the transport of equipment. At the beginning of November, the placing of the mortar screw piles for the foundation will be started. This may cause vibrations in the building.

It is possible that, when you're working in the Snellius building, you will notice some of the works, but we will try to keep the inconvenience to a minimum and to warn you in advance if there is any inconvenience. Are you experiencing inconvenience due to the work? Please contact the reception of the Snellius.
