About the ECHO Awards
The ECHO Awards are nation-wide awards for excellent talent in higher education. Students who are eligible are Dutch students with a refugee background or ‘non-Western background’ (Africa, Latin America, and Asia, including Indonesia and Japan) and international students who are part of an underrepresented group in their own contexts. Suitable candidates are innovative in thinking and doing, have great organizational skills, have contributed to societal impact and can be a critical friend when it comes to issues of exclusion and finding constructive solutions. Bachelor, master and PhD students can be nominated for the ECHO Awards.
In our experience, the trajectory for winners leading up to their nomination is a valuable experience, which positively contributes to their personal development: they reflect on themselves, who they are, and where they want to go. The winners of the ECHO Award 2022 will be rewarded with a 6-week Summer Course at UCLA in the United States in 2023.
