7 February 2023

Update: Do you have any questions about the allocation of funds or the implementation of the SSB plans? You can consult the frequently asked questions or get in touch with the contact person of your faculty or department. A list of all contact persons can be found in the FAQ.

At the start of November, we informed you about the extra investment in higher education and research, in the form of ‘starter and incentive grants’ (SSB). In the interim the faculties and ICLON have developed their SSB plans, based on the principles of team science and peace and quiet. The Executive Board has approved these plans and awarded the grants to the faculties and ICLON.

Letter of award

In December, the faculty boards and director of ICLON received a letter about the SSB award. The funds will be allocated according to student numbers. The letter means the faculties and ICLON can start implementing their SSB plans and inform their staff accordingly.

About the starter and incentive grants

The starter and incentive grants were announced in the Administrative Agreement (in Dutch) for Higher Education and Academia. The aim of these grants is to reduce the staff workload and the competition and pressure to obtain grants as well as to encourage independent research. The grants tie in with the ambitions of ‘Innovating and Connecting’, our Strategic Plan. These additional investments are not enough to provide grants to all lecturers and researchers who are eligible for them. This applies not only to our university but to all institutions. The Executive Board has decided to distribute the funds among the faculties (incl. LUMC) based on student numbers and to allow the faculties themselves to decide how to further allocate them.
