Consultation meeting with starter and incentive grants advisory committee

23 March 2023

Earlier this year, we informed you about the allocation of starter and incentive grants (SSB). The SSB Advisory Committee would like to hear people’s experiences of the new grants. It is therefore inviting current and potential recipients and other stakeholders to share their experiences and discuss the future of the grants at a consultation meeting.

Robbert Dijkgraaf, Minister of Education, Culture and Science, introduced the SSB last year. The aim is to encourage independent research and reduce the staff workload and the competition and pressure to obtain grants. The minister set up the Advisory Committee to advise him and university boards on the further details of the SSB.

Meeting

The committee has decided to hold a broad consultation meeting from 14.00 to 17.00 on 30 March 2023 in Utrecht, with subsequent drinks until 18.00.

The grants will be discussed jointly and in groups. The programme will consist of an explanation of the committee’s working method and mission, the chance to listen to people’s experiences (so far) and a discussion of any related dilemmas. There will also be an opportunity to reflect on the future use of the grants. The outcome of the meeting will be used in recommendations to the minister and university boards.
