Consequences of fire and power cut at Leiden Bio Science Park
This is to inform students and staff about the consequences of the fire earlier today in a boiler house at the Leiden Bio Science Park (LBSP). The cable fire cut off power to a large number of university buildings at the park. These were subsequently evacuated because the power cut meant it was no longer safe to work or study there. The exams that were to be held in the University Sports Centre (USC) early this afternoon were also cancelled.
Work is currently underway to resolve the situation and restore the power supply. We hope to be able to inform our students and staff later today/early this evening whether they will be able to re-enter our buildings on Wednesday 24 May and whether the exams in the USC can go ahead. We may be able to provide alternative venues for these. Keep a close eye on the website and in particular the information channels of the faculties and degree programmes.
The university regrets the situation and is doing all it can to offer more clarity to its students and staff as soon as possible.
