The new Kernvisie curriculum
Education that embeds societal challenges in the curriculum. Minors that fit Leiden Law School’s unique profile. Scope for students to graduate with a degree more aligned to their personal interests and anticipated further studies.
The new Kernvisie curriculum for the bachelor’s degree Rechtsgeleerdheid is here. In the past months, the Academic Directors, Chair of the Task Force Kernvisie, and the Vice-Dean Education have worked hard to arrive at a new structure for the bachelor’s curriculum. The Faculty Board has approved the new curriculum and early this week the plans were met with enthusiasm by the Faculty Council. We are delighted to now be able to share the plans with the whole faculty.
The new structure solves the 10 EC issue, brings innovation to the curriculum, and distributes the impact of the change as evenly as possible – where difficult choices still had to be made, of course. The result is a curriculum that provides students with a solid positive law foundation, awareness of other disciplines, and the skills to help them develop further. Every student in the bachelor's programme will learn about the challenges facing society in the new courses Conflictoplossing (conflict resolution) and Technologie. In addition, students can opt for a degree pathway that is in line with their personal interests and ambitions: via the options in the new courses Conflictoplossing and Technologie, via the 30 EC elective credits, and via the options for graduation credits (afstudeerruimte). The new curriculum will be phased in from September 2025.
