Slight decrease in pension contribution in 2024

18 December 2023

If you receive a salary from Leiden University, you accrue a pension with Algemeen Burgerlijk Pensioenfonds (ABP). ABP recently announced the contributions for 2024.

The contribution for retirement and surviving dependents’ pensions will decrease from 27.9% to 27.0% next year. As an employer, Leiden University pays more than two-thirds of this amount: 18.9%. As a participant, you pay 8.1%. Say you have a gross income of 3,500 euros, this will mean you pay about 10 euros net less in 2024. To find out more about the contribution decrease, see the ABP website.

The contribution for the disability pension will remain unchanged in 2024 at an average of 0.73%. For university staff, next year’s premium will be 0.5%. The university pays 0.35% of this and you as a participant pay 0.15%.

Pensions to increase

ABP will increase its pensions by 3% on 1 January 2024. The increase will be reflected in the pension paid to retirees as well as in the pension accrued by people who work or have worked in government and education.
