Vacancy: Grading Assistant for the Advanced MSc International Relations and Diplomacy Programme

We are looking for a teaching (grading) assistant for the Advanced MSc International Relations and Diplomacy. This two-year programme offers a unique blend of academic education in international relations and political science with practical graduate-level education and training in international negotiations and diplomacy. It is organized in close cooperation with the Netherlands Institute of International Relations, ‘Clingendael’, the leading Dutch think tank on International Relations and Diplomatic Academy. Our students are recruited internationally based on academic performance, international experiences and motivation.

To support the work of lecturers within the programme we are looking for a candidate who can provide grading assistance from the 1st of July 2024 to 1st of July 2025.

Tasks

Assisting grading processes in several courses such as:

  1. International Relations: Theories and Approaches
  2. European Union and The United Nations
  3. Diplomacy: Introduction to Theory and Practice
  4. Negotiations and Conflict Resolution
  5. International Political Economy
  6. Methods of Conflict Management
  7. Research Design: Thesis Labs 1 & 2

This includes the following responsibilities:

  • Training with the FLO department on Brightspace
  • Assisting with Brightspace course setup and gradebooks
  • Assisting with communications with the OSC department
  • Understanding grading rubric guidelines
  • Drafting feedback based on the grading rubric guidelines
  • Delivering draft grading feedback to instructors
  • Additional support as needed to course instructors and in support of the thesis module

Profile

We are looking for candidates holding a Master-level degree who possess the following skills and characteristics:

  • Are interested in and have proven knowledge of the MIRD programme and the contents of the relevant courses
  • Are enthusiastic about these tasks and possess good analytical, research and writing skills
  • Have a strong academic background with demonstrated, convincing results
  • Have the ability to communicate clearly with lecturers, possess strong general communication skills and are able to provide constructive feedback
  • Are able to work independently
  • Are well-organized and able to work under tight time limits
  • Have a high level of reliability
  • Have an ability to work in an international, interculturalsetting
  • Possess high-level English language skills (both oral and written)
  • Are flexible to work in terms of hours allocated: weekly workloads may fluctuate, but will correspond to full-time employment (with peak periods around assignment deadlines)
