Nominate a student for the ECHO Award 2024!

23 April 2024

It is our pleasure to invite you to nominate students for the ECHO Award 2024. The ECHO Award is a national prize for socially engaged students who make a difference in the field of diversity & inclusion. Students who are eligible for an ECHO Award are:

  • Dutch students with a migration background from Africa, Asia, Central and South America, and Turkey;
  • Students with a refugee background;
  • International students who identify as part of a marginalized community in their own context.

The students stand out because of their entrepreneurship, critical analysis, societal impact and organisational skill which enable positive change, whereby nominees join a nationwide network and community engaged in social change. The winners may attend a full-service Summer Course at UCLA in the United States in 2025.

Nominations for the ECHO Award can be submitted until Monday 29 April 2024 (5pm) via divers-inclusief@hum.leidenuniv.nl. All submissions will be collected by the policy advisor D&I (Aurelie van 't Slot), before sharing them with the central Diversity & Inclusion Expertise Office. If we receive more than three nominations, a pre-selection at faculty level will take place.

For a nomination, we would like to receive the following information:

  • Name and email address of the student
  • Supporting statement for the nomination (+/- 250 words) from the staff member
  • If possible, a short motivation from the student

The D&I Expertise Office will offer guidance to the selected candidates in writing the final motivation letter and other requirements of the official nomination procedure for the ECHO Award. More information about the ECHO Award and the award ceremony can be found on the ECHO Award.
