‘AI in education and research’: start of faculty working group

4 June 2025

On 27 May, the first meeting took place of the new faculty working group ‘AI in education and research’. Jan Crijns and Niels van de Ven had asked Marije Schneider to set up this working group and to start working on two specific ideas:

  • Setting out the recommendations of the university working group AI in Education (AIED) in a short overview that provides practical tips for staff.
  • Experimenting with AI applications, for example in a faculty AI CoCreation Lab, and subsequently sharing the insights and experience acquired.

Specific AI applications
The AI faculty working group builds on the (draft) report and the recommendations of the university working group AIED. In doing so, we not only want to exchange knowledge, but to also immediately get to work on specific applications in our education and research.

Planning
At the first meeting, we brainstormed about the working group’s tasks and priorities. These ideas will be developed in more detail in the coming weeks. The Faculty Board has been asked to decide on the formal assignment and tasks of the working group before the summer recess. As soon as this decision has been made, the working group, split into smaller teams, will get to work. A second meeting is scheduled for 8 July.

Update
The developments and results of the working group will be shared in the staff newsletter and on the LTCHub’s page 'AI in het Onderwijs(currently only in Dutch). In this way, we can all stay informed about the progress, new tools, applications and inspiring examples.
