Staff mobility: a chance to grow, connect and inspire

26 November 2025

As a staff member at our faculty, you can develop your expertise further not only here, but also at a university outside the Netherlands. Through staff mobility, also called staff exchange, you can teach abroad temporarily, follow training courses, shadow colleagues (job shadowing), or gain experience and exchange knowledge on certain themes (benchmarking).

Stay and funding

Depending on the programme, a stay can range from two days to a full semester. The funding can come from the faculty, a partner organisation, projects or special incentive grants, or a specific SAP fund.

Why participate in staff mobility?

A temporary stay at a partner university offers opportunities for professional growth and acquiring new inspiration. It will introduce you to other working methods, sharpen your (didactic) skills or put you in contact with colleagues working in similar areas. Many participants find that they return to their own job with renewed energy and new ideas. This applies to academic staff as well as non-academic staff. In addition, staff mobility can help improve quality at our own faculty: new insights, best practices and international perspectives find their way into our teaching and education.

Special opportunity: Universidad Diego Portales in Chile

15 December 2025 is the deadline for applying for an exchange to Universidad Diego Portales in Chile.  This is a special opportunity, particularly for staff involved in environmental law, digital regulation, migration or children's rights. The emphasis is on education, but a stay can also lead to new forms of collaboration, such as joint research projects, exchanges of PhD students or joint supervision programmes. Travel and accommodation costs are fully reimbursed through the ICM programme. There is one place available each year, lasting one week. The preferred period for a stay is July 2026, but alternatives are October or March/April.
