The Leiden University Fund (LUF) is the fund at Leiden University. Support from donors enables researchers to conduct research in humanities, health, sustainability and other fields, and talented students and young researchers are given the chance to achieve their ambitions.

For researchers

The LUF has various opportunities for researchers:

• Academic projects (various funds)
  Generally, but not exclusively, for young researchers (see Grant Terms and Conditions)
• Innovative research: LUF Praesidium Libertatis Grant 2026
• Organising an academic conference or workshop

Alongside the general grants, there are also specific grants for Humanities researchers:

• Research, meeting or study trip in the field of China Studies or Asian Studies
• Research or academic meeting in the field of China Studies
• Travel grant in the field of Linguistics, Literature and/or (Art) History
• Travel grant in the field of Philosophy

For PhD candidates

The LUF also has various options for PhD candidates:

• Participating in a conference abroad
• Study trip abroad

Alongside general grants for PhD candidates, there are also specific grants for PhD candidates in the Humanities:

• Research, meeting or study trip in the field of China Studies or Asian Studies
