New website launched: SSH Sector Plans at Leiden University

3 February 2026

The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FSW) and the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs (FGGA) have jointly launched a new website highlighting Leiden University’s contribution to the SSH Sector Plans: Strengthening Social Sciences and Humanities — a national initiative in which Dutch universities collaborate to strengthen research and education in the social sciences and humanities.

With €70 million available for an initial six-year period, the SSH Sector Plans support long-term collaboration, new academic positions, and greater societal impact, with the ambition for the funding to become structural.

The website presents Leiden’s role in the Social Sciences Sector Plans, focusing on five interdisciplinary themes: Resilience in youth, Mental health disorders, The human factor in new technologies, Social transition and behavioural change, and Social inequality and diversity, alongside Educational Sciences of the Future. It further highlights investments in research infrastructure, laboratories, and data support. You can also find faculty representatives on the website, who act as contact persons for the different SSH Sector Plan themes, as well as profiles of the Assistant Professors appointed through the SSH Sector Plans.
