PhD candidates: gain supervision experience and strengthen your European network
Would you like hands‑on supervision experience in a short, structured and low‑pressure setting? Leiden University PhD candidates are invited to join a pilot program, developed by the Una Europa Student Board.
Apply by 28 February to be matched with a University of Helsinki student. You’ll supervise them as they create a concise (≤1,000 words) research proposal or methodology. Over three weeks, you will provide them with actionable, constructive feedback.
Why participate?
This pilot offers a combination of practical experience and international exposure. By participating, you will:
- Develop your supervision skills: Practice giving concise, actionable feedback and leading a short, student-centered research process you can list on your CV.
- Grow your European network: Collaborate with students and faculty contacts from the University of Helsinki and strengthen your ties within the Una Europa alliance.
- Boost your professional skillset: Improve your mentoring, project‑management and interdisciplinary coaching skills.
Participants will also be invited to share feedback on the initiative and will receive a certificate of participation.
Time commitment
If you participate, you’ll be expected to:
- Participate in three sessions, lasting 1–2 hours each (March/April)
- Provide written feedback within 72 hours for three draft versions
- Complete a short supervisor portfolio prior to matching
Please note: this pilot is voluntary and takes place in your own time, in addition to your regular PhD activities.
