Important: prevent your leave hours from expiring

22 May 2026

If you still have statutory leave remaining from 2025, ensure that you use it no later than 30 June 2026. Otherwise, this type of leave will expire. This means that the leave days must fall before 1 July 2026. Therefore, you cannot use them for a holiday or leave after this date.

Viewing your leave balance in BAS InSite

To view the status of your leave balance, follow these steps:

  1. Go to BAS InSite, 'My InSite'.
  2. Go to the ‘Leave’ tile.
  3. At the bottom of this page, you will see your leave taken and your balance for the different types of leave.
  4. Under the first tab ‘Leave balances’, you will see the total amount of outstanding leave hours.
  5. Under the second tab ‘Leave balance by type’, you will find the leave hours by type and the latest booking date.

Should you see a line item here labeled 'statutory rights 2025', these are the leave hours that must be taken no later than June 30, 2026.

Importance of taking leave

Vacation leave is important for relaxing, recharging, and finding a better work-life balance. Due to circumstances, it is sometimes difficult to take leave, but this does not mean that vacation is any less important. Everyone has the right to take time off, regardless of their role or position at work.

Agreements regarding taking leave

Together with your supervisor, you make agreements regarding your working hours. This means that you agree together on when you work and when you take time off. Afterwards, you register your leave days in BAS Insite. If you have an employment contract, you do not need to register your leave intake.
