Sharing copyrighted material on Brightspace: use links where possible
In March a university-wide project was started with the goal of determining how much copyrighted material is uploaded to Brightspace. Specifically this analysis looks at how many documents are breach copyright law and regulations: these are documents that do not fall under the Easy Access scheme. These kinds of documents generate unnecessary expenses that are charged to the faculties. In the coming weeks it will become clear how many unlicensed documents have been found in Humanities courses and what the next steps will be.
To keep costs for the faculty as low as possible, we recommend taking copyright rules and regulations into account when preparing your teaching materials. Avoid uploading pdf files to Brightspace. Instead, place URL links (to the library catalogue, Open Access etc.) whenever possible. You can find all the information about copyright in Brightspace at the copyright information office or the ECOLe website.
