The LUF funding round for research projects and innovative education projects is now open. Preliminary applications can be submitted via the grant portal from 1 September to 7 October 2026. Information about this funding round and the eligibility criteria can be found on this page, under ‘Academic project'.

After the submission deadline, the Committee for Academic Expenditure (CWB) will assess the preliminary applications and decide which applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal. The maximum amount that can be requested is €35,000.

Who can apply?

Researchers max. 5 years after their PhD who are affiliated with Leiden University or LUMC with a paid appointment (minimum 0.4 fte). In some cases, researchers who obtained their PhD more than five years ago may also be eligible to apply (see grant conditions for details).

PhD candidates who will obtain their PhD before 1 July 2027 are also eligible.
