Let's brainstorm about device-free education
ECOLe speaks to an increasing amount of lecturers who would like to make their lectures and tutorials device-free. Less distraction from phones and laptops leads to more interaction, both between lecturer and students as among students themselves. Studies1,2 also show that students remember information better when they take notes by hand.
The rise of AI has made this discussion even more relevant. How useful is a lecture or tutorial session when students use ChatGPT during class to answer the instructor’s questions and ask their own questions about the course material?
ECOLe would like to invite lecturers to explore what is needed to develop device-free teaching. What goals do you want to reach? What opportunities do you see? And what is needed to make this form of education successful?
We are looking for lecturers who would like to join one or more brainstorm sessions in which we will explore this topic further. Would you like to join the brainstorm? Let us know before 21 september via ecole@hum.leidenuniv.nl. You can also send your thoughts about this topic to ECOLe.
We are planning to organise two or three sessions lasting maximum 1.5 hours each.
