On 4 and 5 February 2027, Leiden University will host the Etmaal van de Communicatiewetenschap, the annual conference of the Netherlands Flanders Communication Science Association (NeFCA). The event is organised by the Science Communication & Society department (Faculty of Science) in collaboration with the Institute of Education and Child Studies (Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences).

This year's conference theme is 'Breaking Boundaries, Building Synergies: Transdisciplinary Research in Communication Science'. The call for proposals welcomes research involving collaboration between communication scientists, researchers from other disciplines and societal partners. Topics covered during the conference include science communication, journalism, health communication, political communication, human-machine communication, media psychology and environmental communication.

If you conduct research in one of these areas and would like to share your work while learning from fellow communication researchers, we encourage you to submit a proposal. The conference also explicitly welcomes contributions from PhD candidates.

The deadline for submitting a proposal is Tuesday 10 November 2026. Registration for conference attendance will open later this autumn.
