External communication tools
Leiden University is proud of its research and teaching, its staff and its students. This is why we are keen to inform society of what goes on at the University.
Our most important channel is our public website: www.universiteitleiden.nl. If you wish to make use of this channel, or if you need more information about our editorial organisation, technical facilities or writing for the web, please consult the web editorial section.
The University also has a number of digital newsletters, which we use to draw attention to the University’s achievements:

Responses and suggestions for topics are always welcome at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are active on a number of social media:
Since social media plays such an important role in modern-day communication, we have formulated some guidelines and tips for safe and effective use.
Publications in print
University magazine Leidraad
Three times a year, staff members, alumni and external contacts receive the University magazine Leidraad. Leidraad can also be downloaded from the alumni website.
Annual publications for general audiences
Every year we publish brochures such as ‘About us’ (facts and figures) and ‘Impressions’ (an overview of the year in photographs). These can be downloaded or ordered via the website.
University weekly Mare
Mare is the information and opinion magazine of Leiden University. Every week Mare reports in journalistic style on developments within the University and in the field of higher education and academic research. The editorial team is independent and consists of professional journalists. The editorial policy is marginally tested retroactively by the editorial council, consisting of representatives of the University community. This is done on the basis of an editorial statute listing the magazine’s objectives.
You can also read Mare online.
The website agenda contains all PhD defences, inaugural lectures, lectures, conferences and other (publicly accessible) Leiden University activities.
