Study material

This course will help you to plan and achieve your work by making effective changes in your own behaviour and the way you organise your work.

For whom

PhDs (Leiden University and LUMC) in the first year of their doctoral research: €520

Topics covered

  • Focus: setting goals and making choices
  • Action: setting priorities, translating goals into concrete actions, establishing who or what disrupts your work flow, and how you waste time.
  • Behaviour: becoming aware of your own behaviour, your thoughts and influencing your environment
  • Organisation: organising your work space, emptying your mind, drawing up and maintaining a plan

What you'll learn

By adjusting your perspective, thoughts and behaviour in a work context, you ensure that you:

  • carry out your work in your PhD trajectory more efficiently and effectively
  • achieve more goals and job satisfaction
  • experience more balance between work and private life
  • experience more control and tranquility
  • can handle a growing workload
  • can deal with ad hoc matters and longer term goals

We reflect on those patterns of thinking, behaviour and external factors in work, that are related to a lack of time and self-management. You will become aware what to solve, tackle or change, to achieve your personal goals. In short: you will learn to do your PhD trajectory in a way that suits you. The training will focus on your personal needs and situation.

The training consists of 3 intervision meetings. During these meetings we focus on daily work situations and your learning needs. You will look at the problem, behavior or situation together with colleagues. This will offer you new perspectives on change and improvement. The intervision is interspersed with explanations about theories and models.

You will also receive a practical E-book with theory, inspiring articles, handy (digital) tools and tips that seem obvious, but which you often do not think about in daily practice.

This course will take place over three 3,5-hour sessions. The total workload for this course amounts to 13 hours including attendance and preparation.
