Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT)™

Friday from 19:00-21:00 h

Teacher
Bettina Neuhaus

For whom
This course is for dancers with (basic) experience in dance and improvisation who want to deepen and further develop their technical and creative skills.

Content
This course introduces participants to the basics of the Skinner Releasing Technique™ (SRT), an innovative approach to dance and movement training developed by American dance artist Joan Skinner (1923-2021).

In SRT, guided poetic imagery is used to stimulate the dancer's imagination and promote nuanced experience of movement.

At other times during the lesson, hands-on assignments with a partner teach participants to observe their own physical patterns more consciously: the touch helps to release unnecessary tension, so that new sensations, connections and movement possibilities can arise.

Among other things, attention is paid to free breathing, allowing movement, the autonomy of different body parts and the game with gravity and balance.

Furthermore, suppleness, effortlessness, multi-directional alignment, and presence in motion and stillness are some of the essential practice areas of SRT. The method can support any movement style and activity while promoting artistic sensitivity and creative development.
