Discover the beauty of ink and the Japanese brush!
The Japanese term "sumi" means "black ink," and "e" means "painting." It refers to an art form in which painting is done with black ink.
The style is characterized by simplicity and precise brushstrokes, ranging from pure black to the lightest possible shades diluted with water.
Discover how, by loading your brush with water and ink, a beautiful gradation is created in a single stroke.
You paint only what is necessary. The unpainted area, the white space, is equally important.
With a series of strokes, using the correct pressure in your brushstrokes without contours, you allow the ink painting to emerge. The goal is to achieve maximum imagination with a minimum number of strokes.
The rice paper absorbs the ink immediately, making it impossible to refine the brushstroke.
We use various brushes, ink sticks, liquid inks, a spot color (ink), and various types of paper, including newspaper and rice paper.
Using various subjects from nature, we will explore in four lessons what everything is possible.
Even a representation without figuration can express the beauty and power of the brushstrokes.
