Teaching innovation

Teaching innovation is a focal point of the University, and its teaching innovation programme began in the first quarter of 2017. Lecturers, students and researchers work together here to improve the content and methods used in the bachelor’s and master’s programmes. The cornerstone of the programme is that any measures taken will derive from evidence-based scientific research.

Aims of the teaching innovation programme

The teaching innovation programme is a comprehensive programme that has been divided into various sections. The aim of the programme is to realise the eight ambitions of the teaching vision  in the coming years. These are:

  • Introduce exploratory learning as a learning concept in all programmes.
  • Create and facilitate small-scale learning communities with active student participation (activating learning).
  • Achieve greater differentiation in learning pathways, giving students the flexibility to adapt their studies to their own goals.
  • Devote more attention within the curriculum to transferable skills and preferably integrate these in a gradual and continual learning pathway that extends throughout the curriculum.
  • Increase the focus on the job market.
  • Increase the focus on society.
  • Increase the focus on technology (digital learning).
  • Become more international in outlook and increase the focus on diversity.

The sections of the teaching programme

The teaching innovation programme has been divided into six sections. Some are under development, whereas others are already in the implementation phase:

  • Teaching innovation (development phase)Focuses on introducing exploratory and activating learning, fostering the development of academic and transferable skills 
    and strengthening ties with society. Also uses digital learning methods. For more information contact Marcel Vooijs.
  • Digital learning (development phase)
    Focuses on promoting digital learning, including new methods of active and blended learning. Optional external digital learning is under investigation. For more information contact Marja Verstelle.
  • International and diverse learning environment (development phase)
    Focuses on promoting and supporting the international classrooms. For more information contact Melissa Koops.
  • Understanding the job market (implementation phase)
    Focuses on increasing students’ ties with the job market and thus also fostering the development of transferable skills. For more information contact Tanja Bos.
  • Diversity in learning (development phase)
    Focuses on fostering a diverse learning environment and creating the conditions for student success, regardless of background. For more information contact Aya Ezawa.
  • Increased options (will be developed in the second half of 2018)
    Focuses on increasing students’ options and differentiation opportunities in order to meet their learning needs.
