Quality of education

Continuously improving education requires keen insight into quality and results. Here you will find more information about the instruments and committees that help safeguard education quality, as well as answers to questions such as: What management information does the education dashboard offer? What is the exact role of the Programme Committee? And how does the process of site visits and accreditation work?

Evaluation of education (Internal quality assurance)

Education evaluation is an essential instrument for providing insight into, monitoring, and improving the quality of education. This is done through means such as course evaluations and the National Student Survey (NSE), with the Programme Committee playing a central role in following up on the results.

Education dashboard (Internal quality assurance)

The education dashboard contains all relevant key data on study programmes, such as intake figures, dropout rates, and success rates. In addition, the dashboard offers access to student evaluations, annual reports, and site visit reports to allow for performance monitoring and comparison.

The Programme Committee (Internal quality assurance)

Every study programme has a statutory Programme Committee consisting of both students and lecturers. This committee safeguards the quality of education, identifies bottlenecks, and issues solicited and unsolicited advice on education policy and its implementation.

Board of Examiners (Internal quality assurance)

The Board of Examiners determines in an objective and expert manner whether students meet the conditions of the Course and Examination Regulations (OER). Furthermore, this board is responsible for safeguarding the quality of tests and examinations within the study programme.

Site visits and accreditation (External quality assessment)

Once every six years, external experts assess whether study programmes meet the quality requirements for accreditation by the NVAO. In addition, the Institutional Quality Assurance Assessment (ITK) periodically reviews whether the university is realizing its own educational vision and sustainably safeguarding the quality of education.

Our quality culture: enhancing quality together

Working together to provide good-quality teaching and education is at the core of our quality culture and we do this by:

  • letting our lecturers and support staff design their own teaching content (in consultation with students);
  • continually exploring how we can provide better teaching and education and setting new goals;
  • constantly coordinating with each other and exchanging knowledge so that we can achieve our common goals as degree programmes, as faculties and as a university.

Are we achieving our goals? Which areas require improvement?

Our quality assurance system enables us to assess whether we are achieving our goals and which areas need to be improved. The Education Dashboard allows you to view reports and management information that explain the effect of measures taken to improve teaching and education and to identify any additional areas for improvement.

Discussions about the quality of our education

Clear objectives and progress reports enable accountability and enhance the role of dialogue about the quality of education with students, lecturers and other stakeholders such as Programme Committees and Faculty Councils. These discussions enrich and enhance the quantitative teaching evaluations.

Training and support

By offering training and support, we strive to ensure that employees – including members of the Board of Examiners and Programme Committees – are well prepared for their tasks and roles relating to quality assurance.
