Adelheid Roosen to give the Annie Romein-Verschoor lecture on 7 March 2019
Adelheid Roosen (1958) is an actress, director and artistic director with theatre company Adelheid & Zina. No subject is out of bounds in her theatre and film productions: honour revenge, sexuality and homosexuality in the Islamic world, her mother's Alzheimer's: nothing is taboo, and nor should it be. In her travels around city districts and theatres, she constantly met new faces that inspired her continuing search for the tipping point for our perspective on 'the Other', the apparent stranger.
Last year in New York she won the prestigious Gilder/Coigney International Theatre Award for her pioneering international theatre work. Since 2016 she has been a member of the Academy of Arts. In 2015, just like Annie Romein-Verschoor herself in 1977, she was awarded the Van Praag Prize (Dutch Humanist Association).
