The EU prides itself on having made big strides to achieve gender equality, but the battle is far from won. The recent ban on abortion in Poland is exemplary of the fact that women's rights remain at stake within the EU, making it all the more crucial that Europe takes a collective stance and upholds its European values. Furthermore, the lack of representation, both in the public and private sector needs to be urgently addressed. The lack of women in decision-making processes is a problem that should worry us all.
Samira Rafaela has been a member of the European Parliament since 2019. As Renew Europe's Coordinator in the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality, she is at the forefront of the European Parliament’s battle to for equality between women and men. As Rapporteur for the Women on Boards Directive, Samira Rafaela aims to enforce equal representation by setting the necessary targets for companies.
