Evelien Campfens, Museums, Collections and Society Research Group, University of Leiden, “War, Cultural Objects, Looting and Restitution: An Introduction to the Legal Framework” (Museums, Memory and Identity).
In this lecture Dr. Evelien Campfens will give a tour d'horizon of the field of looted art and restitution by introducing various categories - such as colonial booty, Nazi-confiscated art and present-day looting. On the basis of case examples she will introduce the legal and ethical rules for such cases, and touch upon developments in this field. The lecture will last approximately 45 minutes, after which there will be time for questions.
This lecture is part of the Guest Lectures Spring 2021: Topical Issues in Museums, organized by Dr. Laurie Kalb Cosmo.
