The Future of the United Nations: Time For Change

The 34-year old UN staff member Arora Akanksha has hit headlines in 2020 by announcing her intention to run as candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary-General in 2021. Coming from a family of refugees, the Canadian with Indian roots is currently working for the United Nations as an auditor and 'is launching an unprecedented campaign to challenge the status quo and the seat of the Secretary-General to lead the United Nation to fulfil its promise to the world'. She is campaigning for a UN that prioritises to 'permanently solve the refugee crisis, take action against climate change and give universal access to technology and education' (https://aroraforsg.org/ ).
In this lecture, Arora will reflect on her personal background and path as well as on her vision for changing the United Nations and promoting a more effective global governance.
