Ifesinachi Okafor –Yarwood will talk about indigenous epistemology in the next session Empirical Methods in Legal Research. Okafor-Yarwood will explain the importance of communalist outlook, and clarity on one’s positionality as an “outsider” or “outsider within”, when conducting field research. Her discussion will focus on researching indigenous communities in Africa.
Okafor-Yarwood is a lecturer in Sustainable Development at the University of St Andrews. Her research advances the understanding of sustainability as a question of resource management, environmental justice, and the disproportionate effects of depleting resources on security, poverty and inequality. In 2019, she won the King’s College London African Community of Practice Outstanding Achievement Award.
