Play in Times of Crisis: A Let’s Play and Open Discussion meeting
- Date
- Monday 10 May 2021
- Time
- Address
- Online (Microsoft Teams)
On Monday, 10 May 2021 (16:00-17:30), the Modern and Contemporary research cluster of the Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society will continue its monthly meeting series with a fifth meeting.
Play in Times of Crisis: A Let’s Play and Open Discussion meeting
Aris Politopoulos and Angus Mol will guide you through two video games that are iconic for Play in Crisis during the (early) days of COVID-19:
- ATEIWPIIWWS&LIOT&ABICDTIIH; or, a solitary spacecraft (an interactive lockdown-diary by indie developer videodante) and
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons (a multi-million selling game developed and published by Nintendo).
The first part of this meeting will take the form of a ‘Let’s Play’ livestream (in this case in Microsoft Teams). Let’s Plays livestreams are a popular format in which a player (in this case, Aris or Angus) and viewers (in this case the participants of this meeting) play, watch, and discuss games together. In short, bar a short introduction into the theme, this Let’s Play is supposed to be fully interactive.
Around 17:00 we will ask Sybille Lammes to kick off a more open-ended discussion where meeting participants can share their own experiences of and thoughts about play during these (and other) times of crisis.
When: May 10, 2021, 16:00 – 17:30
